Then, contact your legislators to ask that they oppose all forms of the Great Lakes Water Compact, and that they oppose the Real ID and all forms of national and biometric databases.


Tips on communicating with elected officials:

  • Communicate by fax, hand-written letter, call, email or postcard.
  • Write 1 or 2 sentences stating your position on the bill.

  • Be brief and to the point.

  • Handwritten letters are best.

  • Include your signature, address and phone number.

  • Communicate multiple times, ideally once per week.

                                  Ideas for the Body of a Letter
     Opposing the Great Lakes Water Compact in All Forms
     

    • We do NOT want any version of the Great Lakes Water Compact.  It is unnecessary. 

    • I strongly urge you to vote NO on both versions of the Great Lakes Water Compact.  Please stop this legislation.

    • The Great Lakes Water Compact in every form is un-American.  It must be stopped.  Please vote NO.

    • The water under my private property should not be put into a “public/ state trust.”  Oppose H.B. 416, as well as any other form of the Water Compact proposed.

    • I am a farmer who uses water for irrigation.  This is the sustenance of my livelihood.  My water should not be regulated by a Great Lakes Council.  Please stop the Great Lakes Water Compact in any form.

    • H.B. 416 does not protect private property rights.  It is unconstitutional.  Please vote against the Great Lakes Water Compact in any form.

    • The waters of the Great Lakes are already protected by the Water Resources Development Act.  We don’t need the Great Lakes Water Compact in any form.  Vote against it.

    • I do not need any more governmental regulation or control of my water, especially from a Great Lakes Water Council.  Please oppose the Great Lakes Water Compact in every form.

    • H.B. 416 is a threat to my private water rights.  The Great Lakes Water Compact in any form deserves a timely death.  Please help it die by voting NO.
